25950, KOA Radio verified with a no data personal letter in 44 days from v/s Jan Chadwell, PE, W7KKD, Chief Engineer. The letter provided historical information about the AM operation including a brief station history and antenna information. The v/s notes 'KOA is on eof the most frequently reported stations world wide. The only region we don't regularly hear from is the area around the Indian Ocean.' I did receive a f/d ppc from CE Jan Chadwell. No letter but the ppc for station name was filled in by him as "RPU for KOA Denver". Freq as 25.95 MHz with date and time For transmitter location he wrote in Denver and power of 100 watts. I believe that stands for Remote Pickup Unit. Received a verie letter from KOVE 1330 Lander, WY. Not a big deal but any QSL or should I say reply is most welcome these days. Anyway, here is an interesting part of the letter I received from Joe Kenney. "It has been a pretty good year for long-range reception pf KOVE. We had a report from a "tuner" from Lemmenjoki, Finland, which is 200 miles North of the Arctic Circle. However, this guy is really serious about capturing radio stations. He has 5 long-wire antennas, each 3,000 feet long. I guess you have to find something to do on those long Winter nights above the Arctic Circle." 960 KQKE CA, San Francisco, I received a HUGE promo package that cost them $3.95. Included was a KQKE t shirt, mug, 3 different colored KQKE whistles, key chains, pens, and a lot of stickers and cards. One of the KQKE cards was made into a QSL card for me with details on the back. No v/s, just signed "The Quake", but it was from the Promotions Dept. Address: 340 Townsend Street, San Francisco CA 94107. MW QSL #2912. I had sent an earlier report with a cassette, but the f/up had a CD. Apparently that did the trick. For the record, KQKE is a Clear Channel station and they continue to be great QSLers. 1430 KQLL OK Tulsa; Partial data letter and AM1300 / AM1430 " SportsRadio " bumper sticker in 68 days for EE report and $ 1. Letter refers to the station as both KQLL and KAKC. KAKC is the sister station on 1300 and I presume this is a typo. This was a very unusual reception since I was hearing them over local KEZW on the same frequency. v/s said he was unable to determine if they were doing anything 'unusual' that night such as transmitter or antenna maintenance. v/s : Clark H.
